Participation in the international network

CONAI not only operates at a national level, but is also an active member of an international network of organisations, experts and platforms working on the issue of packaging and packaging waste. The common goal is to promote increasingly sustainable management models that combine environmental protection with innovation and business competitiveness. Through dialogue and cooperation with counterparts in different countries, CONAI helps disseminate best practices and develop approaches based on concrete results and scientific evidence, supporting the transition towards a genuine circular economy.

CONAI also takes part in international conferences and European working groups, where the Consortium presents the unique features of the Italian system and shares the results achieved in the area of extended producer responsibility. These occasions represent an opportunity to raise the profile of the Italian model, compare it with other experiences and contribute to the definition of future policies on packaging and recycling.

Finally, to ensure maximum transparency in its activities and provide clear information to institutions and stakeholders, CONAI is registered in the European Union Transparency Register under number 898685614483-68. This means that every activity relating to dialogue and representation is open and verifiable, confirming the Consortium’s commitment to being a serious, reliable actor dedicated to contributing to a more sustainable future in Italy and worldwide.

Packaging4EU – the information tool on packaging in Europe

In 2026, CONAI developed the Packaging4EU tool to support companies in understanding European packaging regulations. It enables users to clearly and systematically identify the rules applicable in the various European countries regarding packaging and packaging waste management, EPR obligations, environmental labelling, and more. A useful point of reference for all companies that export or operate in multiple European markets and wish to remain fully compliant with current legislation; for this reason, it has been developed in both Italian and English.

EXPRA Participation

CONAI plays a leading role in EXPRA – Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance, the international alliance that brings together extended producer responsibility organisations in the packaging sector.

CONAI is a founding member and, since 2013, has contributed to the growth of this network, which today has 34 members worldwide. In 2023, EXPRA celebrated ten years of activity, strengthening collaboration among partners and consolidating its position as a global reference point for the sector.
