CONAI is a founding member of EXPRA – Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance, the European reference organisation representing non-profit organisations established by obligated companies to manage packaging and packaging‑waste systems based on the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility.
Founded in 2013, EXPRA currently includes 34 organisations in 31 countries, among which 19 are European Union Member States, all committed to ensuring the collection, recycling and recovery of packaging through extended producer responsibility systems.
The Alliance plays a key representative role with European political institutions and social, technical and economic bodies, promoting extended producer responsibility for packaging waste within the EU, supporting a business‑governed system that is sustainable and efficient, and facilitating the exchange of best practices among members.
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) has evolved over the years into a consolidated global concept and an effective economic tool for achieving national environmental targets. Over 200 countries worldwide use extended producer responsibility as a national policy to ensure the collection, sorting, recycling and recovery of used packaging, demonstrating the environmental and economic effectiveness of this approach.
