Sport and the environment are deeply interconnected realities, capable of positively influencing one another, as recognised in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: “Sport is also an important enabler of sustainable development. We recognise the growing contribution of sport to the achievement of development and peace through the promotion of tolerance and respect, and through its role in the empowerment of women and young people, individuals and communities, as well as in health, education and social inclusion objectives.”
On the one hand, sport teaches respect for rules, discipline and personal responsibility; on the other, the environment teaches the value of balance, care and natural beauty. Bringing these two areas together reinforces a powerful message: caring for the body and caring for nature are part of the same act of responsibility towards oneself and towards future generations.
In this context, in 2026 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), with the aim of structurally embedding a culture of packaging recovery and recycling within the national sports system. This shared commitment will accompany the Italian sporting movement until 31 December 2028, coinciding with the end of the current Olympic cycle.
In addition, during Casa Italia 2026, CONAI involved young athletes in a number of awareness‑raising activities, such as the campaign presenting the Circular Art project as part of the MUSA exhibition, a day dedicated to children as part of the Class Recycling project, and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
