6th ANCI–CONAI Framework Agreement 2026–2029.

Italy is confirmed as the most efficient country among Europe’s most populous nations in terms of cost-to-results achieved in recycling.

Launch of the first online Community in Italy dedicated to the circular economy and the sustainability of packaging.

2021

Continuity in the management of separate waste collection and the delivery of waste for recycling is ensured despite the pandemic situation.

Publication of the CONAI Guidelines for the environmental labelling of packaging.

5th ANCI–CONAI Framework Agreement 2020–2024.

Launch of the programme framework working groups under Legislative Decree 116/2020.

Launch of EcoD TOOL and e‑tichetta TOOL.

Italy meets the 70% recycling target set for 2030.

2018

The modulated Environmental Fee based on the sustainability of plastic packaging is introduced.

The Design for Recycling platform is launched, along with the development of guidelines on design for recycling.

CONAI achieve EMAS registration.

Signing of the 4th ANCI–CONAI Framework Agreement 2014–2018.

The documentary “Tutto si trasforma”

The documentary “Tutto si trasforma”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of CONAI, traces the origins and development of the Consortium through to its present-day achievements (with a 73% recycling rate, Italy having already surpassed the EU 2025 targets), drawing on archive footage and exclusive interviews with policymakers, business leaders, researchers and experts. It thus outlines the portrait of a unique organisation – private in nature yet operating for the public good – which today, thanks to cooperation between businesses, municipalities and citizens, serves as a cultural and organisational reference point for the circular economy.

Ultimately, “Tutto si trasforma” tells a chapter of Italian history: a story of far‑sighted ideas and investments aimed at building genuine environmental awareness in Italy, together with a system for separate collection, recycling and recovery of packaging materials that is remarkably effective.
