Recycling of packaging waste, cooperation with Italian municipalities and results achieved

According to the final figures published in the latest Annual General Report on the management of packaging and packaging waste, in 2024 Italy recycled 76.7% of its packaging waste out of almost 14 million tonnes of packaging placed on the market.

This marks an increase compared with the previous year and comfortably exceeds the overall recycling target set by the EU for its Member States for 2030.

In 2024, 7.396 Italian municipalities entered into agreements with the CONAI EPR Organisation, entrusting it with all or part of the packaging from separate collection. This brought coverage of the Italian population to 97%.

To offset the additional costs borne by municipalities in providing separate collection, local administrations were compensated by the CONAI system with almost €789 million in 2024.
