The Call for Eco-design Projects was created to promote and reward packaging solutions developed with environmental sustainability and circularity in mind. It is open to EPR Organisation Member companies that have implemented eco-design measures on packaging placed on the Italian market, with the aim of reducing environmental impact across the entire life cycle.

Evaluation criteria

A Technical Committee evaluates submissions based on:

• Environmental benefits measured using LCA indicators, such as CO₂ reduction, energy and water savings;
• Activation of at least one eco-design lever: Re-use, Refill, Facilitating recycling, Use of recycled/recovered material, Saving raw material, Saving virgin raw material, Optimising production processes, Optimising logistics, Simplifying the packaging system.

The EcoTool and the analysis of cases are subject to validation by an accredited third‑party certification body.

Companies can submit their cases through the dedicated online platform, providing the required supporting documentation for the actions they have taken. Each submission is assessed using the CONAI EcoTool, a simplified life‑cycle assessment (LCA) tool that measures the environmental benefits achieved.

Beyond contributing to the transition towards a circular economy, the Call for Eco-design Projects offers companies the chance to have their efforts in innovation and sustainability recognised through dedicated communication activities and financial incentives awarded to the most virtuous cases.
