Collaboration with regions and provinces

CONAI’s activities at local level also include collaborations with regions, provinces and metropolitan areas aimed at monitoring collection systems, the quality of delivered material and collection flows.

The objective is to improve the quality of separate collection, maintain strong citizen engagement and monitor the flow of waste through to recycling, ensuring certainty that collected materials are effectively recycled.

Actions undertaken, with the support of the Packaging Material Consortia, range from

• analysing the current situation in waste management (production levels, achieved separate collection rates, existing plant infrastructure),
• defining waste‑management policies suited to the local area and consequently organising developments in plant infrastructure,
• identifying guidelines for separate collection,
• promoting operator training,
• informing and raising awareness among citizens.
